Where to begin..

[NP: Anberlin - The Resistance]

Welcome to The Blitz. I'm hoping this will be a site where two things will converge that never before have: media and sport. Well, that doesn't mean sports media, that means discussions on both the sporting domain and what's happening with media. Why The Blitz? You hear those really cool sports commentary shows and they always have a "The" in the name. I think "Pardon The Interruption" as an example - BTW, is definitely a great show. I think of Chris Berman and The Wrap on Sunday night SportsCenter. I think of "The Crowd Goes Wild". The list goes on.

A few years ago, I was a budding sports journalist. You know, that teenage kid that wanted to have an opinion about everything. I knew my basketball pretty well too, and posted on forums to show my opinion. I've written for tvrealm.com and thebasketballjones.com, the latter before it was popular and blogging was a heard of word. So I've been around the block. I've been sued by BBC for millions of dollars too - you can't say you had that on your resume. And I think it cool I've written articles for a site that know is well-known in blog circles and has content by J.E. Skeets, who writes frequently on Yahoo Sports. So I so have connections to the mainstream media, yess.

But as the years came and went, I started to distance myself from the journalism industry. I just didn't bother to write. I had my opinion, but I didn't screed it into posts. From those basketball origins, on my computer in New Zealand, I began to really get into other sports. Rugby I'd always been into, at least now I have some idea of what I'm talking about. League, ditto. Cricket, same explanation. I've started to understand the NFL, watched plenty of netball on Sky Sport, tried to enjoy soccer (but well, no..). I began understanding motorsport - and I'm now a NASCAR fan. Yes, that sounds strange, but I just love watching cars go in circles for 400 laps. That's just weird I know. I like IndyCar, F1, V8, you name it I've watched it and have some understanding of it (except NHRA..). I'm starting to understand baseball too. I've also become a huge fan of media, the reason why I'm doing a BA in media studies, in my freshman year and absolutely LOVING it.

Anyway, this blog will be versatile. This blog will be different. And I'm thinking I might be picked up again on the free-agent wire by some minor blog site. I mean, if J.E Skeets posts content for the site I used to produce content for, and he got onto Yahoo, then why not? You'll see plenty of New Orleans and Wellington bias, I'm sorry for that but that's how its just going to be. But I hope you're in for the wild ride of 'blogging' from a participatory standpoint. I just hope my sporting and media rants will be appreciated.
